 “Giving a death penalty for drug dealers/users won’t solve Indonesian drug problems” said Ridwan Ibrahim, Legal Sociology Lecturer of UNG University. In this case I can’t be more agree after seeing our president new policy in news. Though, I'm not a drug user and and clearly not depending drug dealers, but in my opinion,  there are more human way to put a stop on such crimes. As for the president mew policy, he seems wanting to make a point that he is a firm leader, but it's not working that way. Indonesia’s drug problems itself is not really new. It has been here since the beginning of Indonesia history. But not only in Indonesia, in every country this kind of problem is as feasible as it is. There are always people who wanted to try something new, something that give them happiness, something to make their life easier. There are many ways to solve drug problem, but applied death penalty isn’t a clever step. So what makes death penalty for drug users is unnecessary ? You can find out in the paragraphs below.

Applying death penalty to drug dealers/users won’t solve Indonesian drug problems. Its application of course give warning to drug dealers and users, but if it isn't accompanied with an early prevention, the drugs will still continue to exist in our lives. Drug problems is a personality problems. Even when the dealers/users had been stopped, people who wants to use it will still searching for the drugs no matter what. So, executing the drug dealers/users just gives a temporary effect. It won’t touch the root of the problems itself. Even if there are no drug dealers who can come to Indonesia, these people who want it will always find ways to get it. And most of the drug victims were teenagers whose notably having curious mind. So that’s why using death penalty to execute drug dealers and users won’t solve the problem.

Seeing how the new law still applied even after many protests, it is such irony for Indonesia where we fight to prevent death penalty of thousand Indonesian citizen in other countries, but in our country, death penalty still applied even for foreign citizens. What will happen if Indonesia come to face International Human Right events? it won’t makes Jokowi being feared by other leaders. It just make him awkward in international eyes. Can you imagine if he speak up about Human Rights in the case of Indonesian maids in Saudi Arabia who will be having death penalty? It will just make Indonesia being laughed by them and of course it will interfere Indonesia relationship with other countries.

The last reason why Jokowi shouldn’t applied death penalty is Indonesia still have a lot of homeworks that need to be solve in the first place. As a develop country, there are so many problems which still needs Jokowi attention. For example, corruption, economic and infrastructure. While Jokowi seems only focusing on drug problem, why he's not giving his firm policy on corruption? It will save many aspects. Making him the real hero, firm leader and respected by the people. Another thought is that if this death penalty applied to corruptors, one of Indonesian economic problems will be gone and it sure will make the corruptors wary.

All in all after seeing Jokowi’s performance these past three months as Indonesia new leader, we can summarized that he already have given many contributions to Indonesia. While his policy on not giving the foreign citizen’s prisoners an excuse is a good step, however applying death penalty for them is not necessary in Indonesia. A develop country which have more important things to do and more important problems to solve. As ordinary citizens we all only hoping he will make Indonesia a better country and be more careful in making some decisions.
